Fruits of the Holy Spirit

Yesterday, at faith formation, the children learned about the fruits of the Holy Spirit – the observable behaviors of people who have allowed the grace of the Holy Spirit to be effective in them.  The Catholic Church (CCC 1832)  teaches 12 fruits*. Here are how I would explain them to my 5 year old.

Charity/Love – Love God and your neighbor

Generosity – Share gifts and possessions with others

Joy – Happiness comes from knowing and loving Jesus

Gentleness – Act calmly and avoid negative actions

Peace – Keep God in your heart and pray for peace in the world

Faithfulness – Live like Jesus did

Patience – Treat others with thoughtfulness and tolerance

Modesty – Think nice things, use nice words, dress nicely

Kindness – Treat others the way you’d like to be treated

Self-control – Try to do God’s Will and ignore things that bug you

Goodness – Always try to do what you know is right

Chastity – You and others should respect your body

*Adapted from St Paul’s Letter to the Galatians 5:22-23

I’m way over 100 words – Sorry 🙂
