First off, Happy Birthday to my favorite brother, Gerard. I am so glad that we live 2 hours away from each other, but that doesn’t even seem close enough. I am also grateful that he is Ayla’s Godfather.
Today was spent at mass, faith formation end of the year cookout, planting the garden, enjoying time with others. The second reading at mass had my favorite word in it. Of course I need to share it.
Sanctify Christ as Lord in your hearts.
Always be ready to give an explanation
to anyone who asks you for a reason for your hope,
but do it with gentleness and reverence,
keeping your conscience clear,
so that, when you are maligned,
those who defame your good conduct in Christ
may themselves be put to shame.
For it is better to suffer for doing good,
if that be the will of God, than for doing evil.
For Christ also suffered for sins once,
the righteous for the sake of the unrighteous,
that he might lead you to God.
Put to death in the flesh,
he was brought to life in the Spirit. 1 Peter 3:15-18
What’s the reason for your hope? It can be a tough question to answer when speaking to those who may struggle to believe in Jesus. There are also many answers – my children, faith, desire to do good, and especially, the promise of eternal life. Whatever the answer, to whoever asks, I need to remember to be gentle and reverent with my words.
