The Ascension of the Lord

“Go, therefore, and make disciples of all nations,
baptizing them in the name of the Father,
and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit,
teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you.
And behold, I am with you always, until the end of the age.” Matthew 28:19-20

Today is the Solemnity of the Ascension of the Lord.  Father Morin spoke wise words at mass today – we are not to look up at the sky to search for Jesus, we should be spreading His light right here on earth.

I wanted to know what Solemnity means – there’s much to learn as a Catholic Christian.  A Solemnity is the highest celebration for the most important mysteries of faith.  The six Holy Days of Obligation in the USA are Solemnities.  Celebration days to honor specific Saints are also called Solemnities.  More information on Solemnities, Feasts and Memorials can be found at the attached links.
